AG-78

AG-78 is a restoration project of a functionalist mixed-use building in one of Mexico City’s oldest Neighbourhoods, Colonia Cuauhtémoc.

The project comprised the refurbishment of the building’s M&E systems including the replacement of 1960’s asbestos water tanks and the reinterpretation of the entrance lobby to the apartments.

The replacement entrance door takes inspiration from nearby functionalist buildings and their patterns of “broken glass” creating a lattice of opaque & clear glazing which allows broken glass to be cheaply replaced if required. The mailboxes were integrated into the door’s design to give the residents a sense of pride and place.

In collaboration with Architects Gustavo Garcia & Jose Casado.
